NMU football hosting first ever food drive

MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan football team is doing something new on Saturday.

The Wildcats are hosting their first ever food drive that will benefit the NMU Food Pantry.Fans are encouraged to bring non perishable food items to Saturday’s game against Northwood. There will be drop off locations near the entrances of the Dome from about 11:30 until halftime. The “Tackling Hunger” Initiative allows athletes to lend a helping hand.

“As a football team I think it’s part of our responsibility to give back to the community that gives us so much in a community that is so community oriented,” said Aaron Rochow, the coordinator and senior long snapper. “I’ve tried to take a leadership role in terms of volunteer activities that our team does, and I thought this would be something great that we can tie in with an actual game, but help out in a way that we haven’t helped before.”

For those who can’t make it to the game, Econo Foods, Super One foods Marquette, and Valle’s Village Market will be accepting donations from 11:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Kick off against the Timberwolves is at 1 o’clock.
