Gwinn man arrested on warrant following car accident
SANDS TOWNSHIP — Police arrested a Gwinn man on a warrant following a car accident in Sands Township on Monday.
At 9:25 a.m., Marquette County Sheriff’s deputies, Sands EMS and Rescue 131 were dispatched to M-553 near Station Road. Responders were advised that a vehicle had struck a power pole and injuries were involved.
Investigators say that 33 year-old Eugene Mahaffey of Gwinn was driving a Ford F-150 northbound on M-553 when he left the roadway, possibly due to a medical condition. His vehicle traveled through a stand of trees and struck a power pole.
Mahaffey suffered head injuries and was transported to UPHS – Marquette for further evaluation. Upon release from the hospital, Mahaffey was arrested on a warrant through the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash is still under investigation.
