Next weekend’s Marquette Love Show to benefit Room at the Inn

MARQUETTE — A community event that’s all about love is back for a 5th year.

The Marquette Love Show will be held at the U.P. Children’s Museum on February 11th from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The family-friendly event raises money for a local charity each year, and proceeds from next weekend’s event will benefit Room at the Inn. People are asked to bring a $5 donation for entry, or donate winter boots, hats or MarqTran monthly bus passes.

If you’re familiar with the Marquette Love Show, there is one major difference to this year’s event.

“This year, we’re switching it up a bit — we’re going to have workshops instead of artists,” said Liza Hunter, organizer of the Marquette Love Show. “To keep in the theme with the Children’s Museum, it’s going to be more of an experiential event.”

Workshop topics include stress-relief, self-healing and acting for kids, all led by local instructors, as well as entertainment from a local DJ and a local band.

There will also be a fireside chat with Doug Russell, the executive director of Room at the Inn, and a representative from the Great Lakes Recovery Center, which Hunter says will add elements of empathy and community awareness to the event.
