NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee City Council held a special meeting today in hopes of furthering their search for a permanent city manager, a position that has been considered vacant since they parted ways with Jeff Thornton in February.

The search was the main topic of conversation today after a member of the public voiced his concerns.

Council members and Mayor Don Gladwell then held a thirty–plus minute closed session to discuss their next move.

“What we’d like to do is we’d like to add one step to the process. Rather than bring them in for a face to face interview off the bat, we thought it would be a great idea of we decided to do a phone interview, an initial interview with these potential candidates, and right now there are two,” said Gladwell.

Mayor Gladwell says he hopes to have the position filled within the next two weeks.
