UPAWS, Fox Marquette team up for special pet adoption day

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — For the last 10 years, the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter has teamed up with Fox Marquette to pair cats and dogs with loving families to be adopted. And that tradition continued Wednesday.

People began lining up outside the dealership at noon to adopt a new furry feline or friendly K9. From 2:00-6:00 p.m., Fox Marquette paid the adoption fee for any animal that found a new home.

Approximately 25 animals were adopted within that four hour period.

“We were very busy this whole week as soon as Fox Marquette promotions started to get advertised,” said Ann Brownell of UPAWS. “People ran in and started adopting because they didn’t want to lose out on their pets. All week long we’ve been busy because of Find a Friend with FOX,” she added.

“It’s really great to be able to see these pets unite with these loving families, said Brittany Singer, marketing coordinator at Fox Marquette. “I know first-hand. I’m the owner of two shelter dogs, so I know how much it means to not just the pets to be able to find a home, but also for the families to be able to feel that unconditional love. Nothing beats it.”

Brownell added that most of the pets adopted at the event were recently brought in from outside the Upper Peninsula.
