Explosion in scrap yard causes fire

On Monday around 3:34 p.m, Escanaba Public Safety responded to Coplan Iron and Metal Company for the report of an explosion and a vehicle fire. Public Safety officers arrived on scene and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the scrap yard. Coplan staff used heavy machinery to move the piles of scrap to assist in extinguishing the fire.

Escanaba Public Safety was assisted by Delta County Central Dispatch, Escanaba Township Volunteer Fire Department, and the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, along with many others.
