UPDATE: Police identify driver in fatal accident

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the man who died in one-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon.

William Albert King, 63, of Republic, died when he lost control of his Mercedes on County Road 601 and Hawks Drive between North and South Republic just after 5:30 p.m. The Mercedes ended up upside down in a pond.

The passenger in King’s vehicle has been identified as Brian Alan Yelle, 53, of Republic. He was taken to UP Health System – Marquette where he was treated and released.

Police believe alcohol may have been a factor in the accident, which at this time remains under investigation.


REPUBLIC — One man is dead and another injured after a one car rollover accident in Marquette County.

Deputies with the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office say they responded to a report of a one car rollover on County Road 601 and Hawks Drive between North and South Republic just after 5:30 p.m. Deputies say a 1980’s Mercedes was going southbound when it lost control, rolled down an embankment and landed upside down in a pond.

Two male subjects were in the vehicle at the time of the accident. One man was pronounced dead on arrival while the second man was transported to UP Health System – Marquette. A dog was also in the car and was taken to UPAWS.

Names of the victims are being withheld to allow time to notify next of kin. The accident is currently under investigation.
