Alcohol Free Weekend

ISHPEMING– One local organization is hoping they can help people enjoy the weekend without drinking.

Great Lakes Recovery Center is putting on an Alcohol Free Weekend starting Friday March 31st through Sunday April 2nd. The center is partnering with Bigby Coffee, River Rock Lanes and Superior Entertainment.

All three of these businesses will be providing deals on non–alcoholic drinks and activities. A spokeswoman for the center said that they want to show people that you can have fun without drinking.

“We want individuals to realize that they can have fun without alcohol,” said Amy Poirier of the Great Lakes Recovery Center. “We want to help break the stigma of alcoholism and we want to let people know where they can find help.”

Poirier said that they also want to include young people in this weekend’s activities. They hope to use the Alcohol Free Weekend to educate them on drinking.

She said “It shows kids you can have fun without alcohol and that’s really important; it’s a lot on the preventative side.”
