Names released in fatal motorcycle accident
CHASSELL TOWNSHIP — Police have released the names of the people involved in a fatal motorcycle accident Wednesday afternoon in Chassell Township.
Mackenzie Roelse, 22, of Sheboygan, Wisconsin died in the accident. Roelse was driving a motorcycle on US-41 when she ran into the back of a vehicle driven by Madeline Lehman, 17, of Houghton.
Lehman was waiting to turn left onto Portage Entry Road.
Police say Roelse may have been distracted and did not see Lehman’s vehicle stopped in front of her until it was too late.
Roelse was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, Mercy Ambulance, Chassell Township First Responders, Chassell Township Fire Department and Superior Towing all assisted the Michigan State Police.
