South Boys beat North Boys in UP All-Star Classic

MARQUETTE — The U.P. All–Star Classic took place this past weekend at Marquette Senior High School and the boys game was a high–scoring affair, to say the least.

The South got the win over the North 110–103, the second–highest combined score in the game’s history. St. Igance’s Gage Kreski led all scorers with 30 points, but the MVP went to North Central’s Morgan Cox.

Afterwards, the South team talked about being part of such a special event.

“It’s just crazy that I get to graduate knowing that I’ve never lost a game. Not a lot of kids get to do that. And I’m just grateful to have this experience in my life,” said Cox.

“The kids enjoy it. They love it. This is a great atmosphere for them because of the Hall of Fame doing this. It’s unbelievable. They have a great time and it’s good for them. They deserve it. It was a good atmosphere today and they more than enjoyed it today,” Branstrom said.

Cox also won the dunk contest. He says he plans to attend Gogebic Community College in the fall.
