UPDATE: Suspect killed by police identified
UPDATE — 6:30 p.m. June 16, 2016 (EDT)
The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office has released more details concerning last night’s officer involved shooting in Pembine that resulted in the death of a Fitchburg man.
The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office says a bulletin was issued earlier in the day warning the public of an armed man.
That man has been identified as Michael Rasmussen.
Police tried to talk him out of his car.
During the phone call, Rasmussen abruptly stopped, exited the vehicle and started approaching deputies with a firearm.
They ordered him to stop, but he was ultimately non–responsive, so they used deadly force to stop him.
Police believe this was isolated incident.

MARINETTE COUNTY — One man was shot dead in Marinette County, Wisconsin, yesterday evening.
The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office says a bulletin was issued earlier in the day warning the public of an armed man.
A vehicle matching the description of the subject’s vehicle was spotted that evening. Deputies monitored his whereabouts while negotiating with him over the phone.
During the phone call, the man abruptly stopped, exited the vehicle and started approaching deputies while armed. They ordered the man to stop, but he was ultimately non-responsive, so they used deadly force to stop him.
Police believe this was an isolated incident. Investigation was turned over to the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
