ISHPEMING — Construction of the first of two roundabouts in the City of Ishpeming is well underway. According to officials in charge of the $4.2 million endeavor on US–41 and Second Street, the project is moving along smoothly.

Construction workers have been working six days a week for the last month to get the project two weeks ahead of schedule. There are five different phases to the roundabout construction.

Crews are currently in phase two of the project, which includes installing curbs, gutters and water mains. That work should be finished in about two weeks.

“Things are going pretty good,” said Robbie Dobson, project superintendent for A. Lindberg and Sons. “Everyone is working together, MDOT and the City of Ishpeming. We’re looking to switch traffic and head to stage three in two weeks. We have weekly meetings with the city and MDOT that residents can sit on in. It’s going very well.”

The entire project is expected to be finished on October 5th. If the construction continues to stay ahead of schedule, Dobson is optimistic about having everything done by the end of September.
