Construction underway for UP Health System clinic

CALUMET — Residents in the Calumet area will soon have more options for their health care. ABC 10’s Keweenaw Bureau Reporter Rick Allen has the update.

Construction is underway on the new U.P. Health System—Calumet Clinic. The $7 million facility will be on the corner of US–41 and Lake Linden Avenue, at one of the busiest intersections in town.

U.P. Health System—Portage purchased the former Sacred Heart Catholic School location last summer, which had become home to several small businesses as well as a branch of Range Bank.

That building has been partially demolished to make room for the free standing clinic. The remainder of the business center building will be retained as office rental space. The new clinic will reportedly be in line with the historical architectural style of Calumet and its design has been signed off on by the Calumet Township Planning Commission and the Keweenaw National Historical Park.

U.P. Health System—Portage will operate the clinic in conjunction with Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center, which will relocate from its current location on 6th Street.

The clinic will offer primary care medical services as well as expanded access to a wide range of medical and dental services. The project is expected to be completed by this fall.
