City Commission granted DNR passport

The City Commission meeting yielded big news today regarding a favorite city park.

Mayor of Marquette, Dave Campana revealed that the commission has finally gotten a Department of Natural Resources recreation passport granted for a city park.

This would allow Michigan residents to access the local city park with a DNR recreation passport, just like they would with DNR ran state parks.

All that’s left is to approve it.

“That’ll give us $45,000, and the city has to match $15,000,” said Campana, “And they’ll give us playground equipment at Tourist Park. Something we’ve long wanted.”

Michigan residents can purchase the recreation passports when they renew their state license plate, or any other time by bringing your registration into a Secretary of State branch.

The mayor also touched on Marquette’s Lakeview Arena making the final two of the Kraft Hockeyville contest; urging citizens to vote.

“Our community relies on hockey and Lakeview Arena for so much more than recreation. It is a lifeline that keeps our residents active in long winters and stimulates our local economy,” Campana announced during the meeting.

Winning the contest could help the rink to receive one–hundred and fifty thousand dollars in renovations, as well as the chance to host an NHL preseason game.
