MARQUETTE — One of the most traveled roads in all of the U.P. is nearing the end of its construction process.

The nearly one point four million dollar repair on roughly seven miles of US forty one between Negaunee and Marquette is on schedule. The paving is expected to be completed by this Saturday, followed by line painting.

“Basically we did a joint repair,” said Assistant Construction Engineer Jeff Rautiola, “there’s actually concrete pavement below the hot mix asphalt. It’s a relatively inexpensive way to do a number of miles and get a good ride quality on it for probably another 7 years.”

The paving is expected to be completed by this Saturday, followed by line painting. At the very latest, the project will be finished by October 15th.
