UPSSA High School Football Poll – Week One

ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming Hematites are the resident powerhouse in Marquette County. A strong start to the season means they might be back at Ford Field to reclaim the Division 7 state title that eluded them last year. But according to the UPSSA, don’t sleep on the Negaunee Miners.

The Big Five rankings were released earlier this morning and the Hematites as well as the Miners are both in the top five. Neither were able to overtake Menominee at the top, however Ishpeming was able to secure two of the seven first place votes.

In fourth place was Kingsford and in fifth is Escanaba.

Ishpeming will look to remain undefeated as they take on local rival Westwood in Patriots coach Scott Syrjala’s return to his old team. Negaunee is back at home this Friday and they have a tough task in trying to take down Iron Mountain.
