2nd Annual Pride Fest set for Saturday
MARQUETTE — The 2nd Annual Pride Fest is ready to begin tomorrow.
The 2nd Annual Pride Fest put on by Upper Peninsula Rainbow Pride is expected to have twice as many people this year. But even with a large increase in participants, the main goals remain the same.
“It allows you to just be free and not have to worry, not be afraid. I want people to have a good time,” said David Shew With Upper Peninsula Rainbow Pride, “to just be relaxed and hold hands with who they want to hold hands with. It’s not just for the LGBT community, it’s for our allies, friends, and families and just to celebrate who we are.”
The festivities begin at 11 at the Marquette Commons with a Pride Rally ‘n’ Walk to Tourist Park that will be filled with flags, banners, and support for the LGBTQ community and their family and friends. Marquette’s Mayor Michael Coyne will give a speech at noon at Tourist Park. The rest of the day will be filled with local music, dancing, fire spinners, a presentation of The Rocky Horror Show by P.A.A.C., an amateur and professional drag show and much more including the crowning of Mr. and Miss. U.P. Pride Fest.
An afterglow party will take place at Coco’s Restaurant following the festival.
