Rochester back at the Island Resort Championship

MARQUETTE — Needless to say, when it comes to golf, we leave it to those who are better at it than us… like a Marquette native who will be participating in her second major golf tournament in her career.

Avery Rochester is back for another shot at the Sweetgrass golf course as she will be one of two amateurs taking part in the Island Resort Championship as part of the LPGA’s Symetra Tour. She’s a three–time UPLGA champion and she sounds ready to improve from her performance last year.

“I feel great. I feel like my game has been pretty good. Today the practice round went pretty good. I think it’s going to be a good tournament this year,” Rochester said.

The southern U.P. has been dealing with a lot of weather issues lately but Rochester says the course is still in great condition.

“Compared to last year, the course is 110 times better. It’s beautiful out there. The greens are great. The fairways are great. The greens are rolling fast, too and that’s always a good thing. The really only concern I would have is just how windy it gets. Because when the wind starts to pick up, then they can really cause trouble for certain shots, especially into the green and off the tee,” said Rochester.

Rochester will tee off Friday morning at 9:20 eastern time in Harris.
