When any sports season ends, one of the most exciting days after is the revealing of next year’s schedule. Fans sit there and map out where potential upsets can happen and what games they have no chance in. For the teams themselves, it’s all about preparation. And for the NMU basketball team, that begins now.
The men’s and women’s teams have released their schedule for next season and it looks like a tough road for both teams. Early on, the men will face a very good Minnesota Duluth team in non–conference action and will also head down to Kentucky to participate in the Kentucky Wesleyan Classic tournament.
The Lady Wildcats open the season in the Soo for the LSSU Tournament and at the end of the month, they will head to Kentucky for the Bellarmine Tournament. Opening night for both teams at the Berry Events Center will be Thursday, December 3rd against Walsh. Mid January will be a challenge for NMU as they have four straight road games against Ashland, Lake Erie, Grand Valley State and Ferris State. The month of February will be kind to the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats as they will play five of their final right games at home. And the rivalry games against Michigan Tech will be at that time. At home on February 1st and at MTU in the final game of the season on February 25th.
The men will try to improve on a 9–19 record last year, while the women will be looking to return to the GLIAC tournament for the fifth consecutive year.
