Upper Peninsula ladies compete for pageant titles

MARQUETTE — The glam, glitz and glitter of pageants hit the stage at the Forest Roberts Theater this weekend.

The Miss Upper Peninsula and Teen Upper Peninsula Pageants took place Saturday. We dropped in at their rehearsal.

First, they learned the opening number, got a chance to get to know each other and get a feel for what the competition is all about. This is the third year that the competition has been under the direction of JLSW Design, and they say they were excited to put together another great show.

“It has been a great success, which I think is a huge credit to the support of our community. There are so many incredible young women in the Upper Peninsula and having the opportunity to showcase young women who are confident in themselves and what they want to do in their lives is really incredible and I think that’s something that people can really get behind,” said Jennifer Skogman-Wagner, who directed the pageant.

Saturday, the contestants had a private interview with the judges and later participated in the swimwear and evening wear competition. Then the field was trimmed down to three finalists who answered a final question to decide the winner.
This year’s Miss Upper Peninsula is Brittany Cappoferri and Teen Miss Upper Peninsula is Madelyn Christensen.
