Kero talks about his experience in the pros
ROCKFORD, Ill. — Seems like just yesterday we were watching Tanner Kero create magic on the ice at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena at Michigan Tech. But now the man is moving on up.
After signing a two–year deal with the Chicago Blackhawks, Kero found a home in the AHL with the Rockford IceHogs. And after scoring 46 points in his senior year with the Huskies and leading them to their first NCAA playoff birth since 1981, he has enjoyed a lot of success in the pros.
“It’s been fun. I knew it would be a little transition, different style of play with a new group of guys and coaching staff but it’s been good. They’ve been really good with teaching me and learning every day so it’s be good so far. I didn’t expect even some of those bounces to go in but you just try to work every day and just hope you can earn some of those bounces but focus on defense and it seems like that’s when the offense comes,” Kero said.
The AHL regular season wrapped up this past weekend and Kero says he’s ready for the playoffs.
“The playoffs is a totally different game but I’m just going to do the same thing, just focus every day and work hard and try to get better and learn as much as I can every day I’m on the ice,” Kero said.
The AHL playoffs kick off this Friday as the IceHogs will take on the Texas Stars in a five game series. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 central time.
