Man injured in snowmobile vs. vehicle accident

SOUTH RANGE — A snowmobile and a vehicle crashed Tuesday near South Range around 4:15 p.m.

A 75-year-old North Dakota man was traveling eastbound on his snowmobile on Trail 3 when he failed to yield at the trail, M-26 intersection. The snowmobile struck the side of a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old South Range man, tossing the rider from the sled.

The snowmobile driver was transported to U.P. Health System – Portage for treatment of injuries. Alcohol was not considered a factor and the accident is still under investigation.

No names have yet been released.

Houghton County Sheriff Deputies responded to the scene and were assisted by the Houghton City Police Department and Adams Township First Responders.
