Pedestrian killed in Marinette County car collision
BEECHER, WISC. — A pedestrian is dead following an early morning car accident Saturday in Marinette County, Wisc.
Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve says the accident occurred just after 4 a.m. on US-141 near Jossart Road in the town of Beecher.
The driver of a pickup truck, Michael Vojack, 51, of South Barrington, Ill., stated he was driving northbound on the highway when he swerved to avoid a dark object in the road. The object, which could have been a person, was struck by the enclosed snowmobile trailer Vojack was towing.
Vojack says he turned around and went back. He found an unresponsive adult female in the middle of the road.
Resuscitation efforts proved unsuccessful and the victim, identified as Pauline Wallschlaeger, 51, of Pembine, was pronounced dead on scene from head and internal injuries.
Neither Vojack nor his wife and three children were hurt. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in regards to Vojack, but it is believed to be a factor in regards to Wallschlaeger. Sheriff Sauve also notes that snow was falling and the road was snow-covered at the time of the incident.
The accident, which is the fourth traffic fatality in Marinette County in 2014, remains under investigation.
Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted on scene by Pembine Rescue and Fire.
