ELY TOWNSHIP — A rollover accident in Ely Township landed one man in jail Saturday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says the incident occurred just before 8 p.m. on County Road 581 near County Road CD.

A 42–year–old Negaunee man was driving his Chevy Tahoe northbound on the highway when he lost control, exited the roadway to the left, and overturned in the snow bank.

The vehicle’s passenger, a 43–year–old Marquette man, was not injured. The driver suffered minor cuts and was treated on scene.

Police say their investigation found the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while impaired and taken to the Marquette County Jail where he awaits arraignment.

Speed is also believed to be a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Ishpeming Police Department, Ishpeming Township Fire and EMS, Ely Township EMS, and Bell Hospital EMS.
