MARQUETTE – Mitch Jones and Robbie Payne each scored their first goals of the season as Northern Michigan shutout Ferris State 2-0 Saturday night at the Berry Events Center.

Jones scored the first goal of the game early in the second period on the power play. Jones threw the puck from the boards at the net and it found its way past C.J. Motte to make it 1-0 Wildcats. Darren Nowick had the lone assist on the goal.

NMU got the always important insurance goal in the third. Dominik Shine dropped the puck back to Ryan Kesti, who rang a shot off the post. The puck came to Robbie Payne who put the puck into the gaping net.

The Wildcats finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play. NMU killed all five penalties they took during the game.

Wildcats goaltender Mathias Dahlstrom was once again sensational between the pipes. The sophomore netminder stopped all 24 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season.

NMU (6-1-1, 3-1-0 WCHA) is off until Friday, Nov. 21 when they travel to Alaska for two weeks for four conference games against Alaska Anchorage and Alaska.
