Ishpeming man arrested for embezzlement
MARQUETTE — An Ishpeming man is free for now after being arrested for stealing money from a labor union.
The Marquette Police say he’s Steven Harvala, 49. He’s charged with embezzlement of $10,000 to $20,000. Detectives believe he stole from a local union training fund, but there’s no word about which one.
Harvala was released on a personal recognizance bond until his District Court arraignment, which is scheduled for next Tuesday, September 2nd.
If he’s convicted, Harvala could serve up to five years in prison. He may also be forced to pay a fine of $10,000 or three times the amount embezzled, whichever is greater.
