Eskymos ready to run this season
ESCANABA – Things are looking up for the football program at Escanaba. The Eskymos have enough players on the Varsity squad to allow each player to play on one side of the football. That is a big key for what Escanaba hopes to accomplish on Friday nights this fall.
Jim Hansen enters year number three in charge of the program at Escanaba. Hansen’s players have bought into his up–tempo philosophy on offense. Escanaba will run a no–huddle, shotgun style offense with the goal of wearing the other team down by the end of the game.
“We like to go fast in practice., we want to go fast in the games,” said head coach Jim Hansen. “We like to get in lots of reps and we like to wear people down, so that’s what you can expect. I think everybody is getting more comfortable in the system. Offensively and defensively with the style of practice that we like to run, we have the same coaches so everyone is a little more familiar with everything that is going on in year three.”
“There’s a lot more intensity this year than their was last year,” said Eskymos senior left tackle Ben Larson. “It’s the third year of the program, so we’re smarter. We know what we’re doing and we’re getting after it better.”
“Everybody is getting after it,” said Escanaba senior running back Sean Bissell. “It’s high intensity and fast paced. We’re making big plays, big hits, and just getting after it and after each other. Our fast paced, no–huddle will definitely wear defenses down. They will be sucking air while we’re getting ready to run another play.”
The Eskymos begin the season on the road at Alpena on Friday, Aug. 29.
