MTU volleyball recruit to play in Europe

HOUGHTON, Mich.* – Michigan Tech volleyball recruit Lauren Emmert has been selected to the U-22 BIP Midwest Team for the upcoming 10th Annual European Global Challenge in Pula, Croatia, from July 13-17. Emmert is the only Division II player on a roster filled with players from Division I teams.

“We are very happy for Lauren and excited to know that she’s part of an amazing opportunity,” Tech volleyball coach Matt Jennings said. “I know some of her teammates on the team and their ability. She’s surrounded by a great deal of talent, which is testament to what kind of player Lauren is. I hope they do well and she enjoys the trip.”

The 2014 Global Challenge will have teams from six European countries and 12 teams from across the United States. There is an under 17 and under 22 age bracket.

The Midwest Team is coached by Eric Schulze the director of Fusion-Marengo in Illinois. Other members of the team are: Abby Gilleland (Ohio), Caitlin Brauneis (Georgetown), Mary Grace Kelly (Northern Illinois), Meghan Niski (James Madison), Kendra Cunningham (Northern Colorado), Libby Bresser (Loyola), Amelia Anderson (Indiana), Ashley Rosch (Illinois State), and
Annie Kunes (Texas-San Antonio).

Pula is located on the Adriatic Sea. The European tour begins on July 8 and includes sightseeing stops throughout Croatia and in Venice, Italy.
