Wrestlers compete at Junior Nationals

MARQUETTE, Mich. — Barrett Stanghill, of Philipsburg, Mont., was named outstanding wrestler at the Greco-Roman Junior Nationals and was one of three gold medalists from the Northern Michigan University Olympic Training Site. The event was Thursday, April 17, in Las Vegas, held by the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles.

Stanghill won his gold medal at 74 kilograms. Also earning gold were Arthur Carmona, of Brawley, Calif., at 55 kilograms; and Alejandro Sancho, of Miami, Fla., at 66 kg.

Earning a bronze medals for the NMU-OTS was Travis Rice, of Washington, Ill., at 60 kg. Finishing fourth were Kyndall Rutz, of Englewood, Colo., at 55 kg. and Paul Rodriguez, of San Jose, Calif., at 63 kg.

According to USA Wrestling, more than 129 wrestlers took to the mat in attempt to win a 2014 FILA Junior National gold medal.
