NMU, LSSU to play for Cappo Cup
The Northern Michigan University hockey team is looking to rebound this weekend after a pair of losses a week ago at Ferris State.
NMU takes on U.P. rival Lake Superior State this weekend at the Berry Events Center. The Wildcats will play five of their final eight games at home.
The Wildcats currently sit in eighth place in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association standings, one point ahead of the Lakers. The WCHA standings are very tight, as teams in third through ninth place are separated by just six points.
“I think you have to take care of your own business and win your own games,” said Wildcats head coach Walt Kyle. “A lot of times coaches and even players can waste a lot of energy looking at who they’re playing and where they are in the standings. We have to be focused on getting the job done. It is that time of the year. Every game is critical and every point is critical.”
“I think this weekend is do or die time,” said Wildcats junior forward Reed Seckel. It’s time to put all of our biscuits in the basket, come together, and win some games.”
Puck drop on Friday and Saturday is set for 7:07 p.m. The Wildcats are 6-4-1 at home this season.
