Lions part ways with head coach

After five seasons as the head coach of the Detroit Lions, Jim Schwartz was fired on Monday. Schwartz finished with a 29-51 record during his tenure in Detroit. He led the Lions to one postseason appearance in 2011.

The Lions started the 2013 season with a 6-3 record and a two game lead in the NFC North Division. Detroit lost six of its final seven games to finish a disappointing 7-9, missing the playoffs for the second straight season. The Lions have lost ten straight games in the month of December dating back to 2011.

Schwartz had two years remaining on his contract that will pay him $12 million.
