NMU hockey mid-season review
The Northern Michigan University hockey team has played 18 of the 36 games on their 2013-14 schedule.
The Wildcats are 6-10-2 this season. NMU is 4-5-1 after ten Western Collegiate Hockey Association games. The Wildcats have nine points in those ten conference games.
NMU is the only team to have played only ten conference games. Every other team in the WCHA has played 12 or even 14 conference contests.
The Wildcats have have a 4-2-1 record at home. But on the road is where NMU has really struggled this season. The ‘Cats are 2-8-1 in games not at the Berry Events Center.
Wildcats senior forward Stephan Vigier has been a lightning rod up front for the NMU. He has a team leading 10 goals, after scoring just seven a season ago.
Vigier is now the Wildcats captain for the rest of the season. He takes over for defenseman C.J. Ludwig, who will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
NMU will resume play after the holiday break with a road trip at Bemidji State on January 3-4. The ‘Cats will take on Alaska at the Berry Events Center on Jan. 17-18.
February will be a fun month for NMU, as they will play rivals Lake Superior State and Michigan Tech. The Wildcats will conclude the regular season with a series at Alabama Huntsville on March 7-8.
