NMU netminder named WCHA Rookie of the Week
When Jared Coreau left NMU to become a professional netminder in the NHL, the Wildcats had some big shoes to fill. But so far, their Swedish import is fitting in quite nicely between the pipes.
Redshirt Freshmen goaltender Mathias Dahlstrom has been named WCHA Rookie of the Week for his stellar performance last weekend. Dahlstrom recorded back-to-back shutouts over league rival Alabama Huntsville, leading the Wildcats to two victories in the process. The freshman phenom stopped 33 shots on goal in the series, blanking the Chargers on all seven of their power play chances.
Dahlstrom is unbeaten in his last five starts with a 4-0-1 record. He currently ranks second amongst WCHA goaltenders, allowing just under two goals a game.
Dahlstrom has a tough task this weekend with the league-leading Ferris State Bulldogs coming to town.
