NMU hockey team to face Mavericks
The Northern Michigan University hockey team had a tough opening weekend, losing two games in regulation to the Wisconsin Badgers.
After being outscored 3-0 in the opening period of the season, the Wildcats went toe-to-toe with the third ranked Badgers the rest of the weekend. NMU returns to the Berry Events Center this weekend for their first home series of the season against Nebraska-Omaha.
UNO and NMU split their two-game series last season in Omaha. The Wildcats usually play very good at home and they hope that trend will continue against the Mavericks.
“We’re excited to be at home. Historically, we’ve been pretty good in this building,” said Wildcats head coach Walt Kyle. “We’re playing a very good team and we’re excited about getting back in our building and playing in front of our fans.”
“Their top line of Ryan Walters and Josh Archibald is a really dangerous line. We’re going to have to make sure that we relieve fore-checking pressure and not let them bottle us in our end. We’re going to have to get to their goaltenders a little bit and certainly we have to win special teams,” added Kyle.
Puck drop between the Wildcats and the Mavericks is set for 7:07 p.m. both Friday and Saturday night. NMU is 16-16-2 all-time against UNO.
