Names released in sun-related motorcycle accident
The names of those involved in a motorcycle accident on U.S. 41 in Marquette Township have been released.
30-year-old James Roberts of Negaunee was riding his Kawasaki motorcycle westbound on U.S. 41 near Wright Street around 7:30 p.m. when he failed make out a red light on a traffic signal that was directly in the light of the sun. Roberts proceeded to crash into a Dodge mini-van driven by 54-year-old Bruce Maki of Atlantic Mine. No one in Maki’s van was injured, and there was only minor damage to the back of his van. Roberts suffered minor injuries to both legs after flipping over the handlebars of his bike and pinning himself upright against the back of Maki’s van. Roberts was treated for those injuries on scene by MGH EMS.
Roberts was not issued a traffic citation, but was deemed at fault and went on to say that if it hadn’t been for his helmet, he might not be alive.
