Baseball season over for Hancock
The American Legion Baseball state tournament has three teams remaining in the hunt for the championship.
After losing to Gladstone on Thursday, Hancock rebounded nicely Friday morning with an 8-1 win over Ida, eliminating them from the tournament.
Gladstone was in the same situation as Hancock. The Indians fell into the loser’s bracket after a 2-0 loss to Hudson on Thursday.
In the loser’s bracket, Gladstone defeated Gladwin, 10-3. That set up an elimination game between the Indians and Hancock.
Thanks to a complete game shutout by Hunter Garling on the mound for the Indians, Gladstone shutout Hancock, 5-0, to stay alive in the tournament. With the loss, Hancock was eliminated from the tournament.
In the winner’s bracket on Friday afternoon, Hudson defeated Escanaba, 4-0. The Cubs managed just two hits in the game.
Escanaba will face Gladstone, Saturday at 10am in an elimination game. The winner of the Cubs, Indians game will have to defeat Hudson two times to win the state tournament.
