USOEC weightlifter wins national title

MARQUETTE, Mich.— United States Olympic Education Center weightlifter Ryan Borges earned a National Championship title Saturday (July 27) at USA Weightlifting’s National Championships in West Chester, Ohio.

Borges, of Bradenton, Fla., who competed in the 56-kilogram weight class, lifted 101 kg in the snatch and 117 kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 218 kg.

A sophomore special education major at Northern Michigan University, Borges also won the University Championship in April.
“Having Ryan win the Nationals after winning the Universities is great to see,” said Coach Vance Newgard. “He trains hard and I am proud of his continuing success.”
