NMU hockey players at NHL camps

MARQUETTE, MICH.- Four Northern Michigan University hockey players recently participated in development camps with National Hockey League teams. Forward COHEN ADAIR (Chicago Blackhawks), defenseman JAKE BAKER (Edmonton Oilers), defenseman LUKE EIBLER (Winnipeg Jets) and forward REED SECKEL (San Jose Sharks) were invited to participate.

“Going to NHL development camps is a great chance for some of our guys to see what opportunities are ahead of them after college, as they grow and improve,” NMU hockey coach Walt Kyle said. “It gives them an opportunity to see how professional teams work behind the scenes.”

Adair appeared in 32 games, scoring five goals and tallying four assists, during his freshman campaign. He was in Chicago from July 8-12.

Baker was invited to a development camp for a second year in a row after attending Vancouver’s camp in 2012. He was in Edmonton from July 3-9. Baker appeared in 36 games last season and had a goal and two assists.

Eibler sat out the 2012-13 season after transferring to NMU from Northeastern. He was in Winnipeg from July 15-19.

Seckel led the Wildcats with 13 goals and was second with 25 points in 35 games last season. He was in San Jose from July 8-12.

“It’s also great for our hockey program because these guys can see how hard other players work in the offseason,” Kyle added. “They also bring back what they learned to our team and give us ideas for new techniques and drills.”
