Lady Huskies land All GLIAC honors

BAY CITY, Mich. – Seniors Sam Hoyt and Emma Veach each earned All-GLIAC and all-defensive team honors for women’s basketball the league announced Friday (March 8). Hoyt earned first-team honors and Veach was a second team selection.
“I’m proud of our seniors and their well deserved awards,” said head coach Kim Cameron. “They have been the pillars of this team the entire year and throughout their careers. Our conference is tough and to be recognized is a true honor.”
Hoyt ranked fifth in the league in scoring at 16.5 points per game and second in free throw percentage (89.4-percent). The Arkansaw, Wis., native ranked third in assists (100), eighth in steals (51) and ninth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5). Overall she ranked in the top-10 in different categories in the league. She ranks eighth in career scoring at Michigan Tech with 1,340 points.
Veach averaged 8.2 points per game and led the GLIAC in 3-point shooting (50.7-percent). The Grand Haven, Mich., native is second in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.5). She also tallied 32 steals and 18 blocks this season.
The Huskies will face No. 2 Ashland in the GLIAC Tournament semifinals Saturday (March 9) at 2 pm.
