Marquette officials address Co. Rd. 595 issue
With the proposed County Road 595 plan shut down earlier this month, more trucks will be roads in of Marquette. The Marquette City Commission held a special meeting this morning to talk about the trucking routes that will be used by Rio Tinto. With no alternative route, trucks from the Rio Tinto mine will be joining other commercial trucks in County Road 550 and through Marquette.
At the meeting, Commissioners passed a motion to look into a long term trucking route solution for the city — not just for Rio Tinto. The six Commissioners at the meeting voted to hire a lawyer other than the one currently employed by the city. The city attorney works for a firm employed by Rio Tinto and Commissioners say they want to avoid any conflict of interest.
