NMU Swimmers have success at Championships

MANSFIELD, Texas – The Northern Michigan University swimming and diving
team has two swimmers participating in the 2012 Division II NCAA Swimming
and Diving Championship from the Mansfield Independent School District
Natatorium in Mansfield, Texas.
“Gaby swam very well this morning,” NMU coach Heidi Voigt said. “We’re
hoping to finish strong tomorrow in the final day.”
Junior Gaby Alzaga broke the school record in the 100-yard backstroke on
Friday (March 17) with a time of 57.21 in the preliminary round. Alzaga
finished 16th in the event and scored the lone Wildcat point.
Freshman Emily Brennan swam during the first two days of competition. She
finished 42nd on Wednesday (March 15) in the 200-yard individual medley
with a time of 2:10.29. She swam the 400 IM on Thursday (March 16),
finishing 30th in 4:39.63.
“Both swimmers have one race tomorrow are gaining some great experience at
this level that will help them in the future,” Voigt added.
Both Alzaga and Brennan have one race each on Saturday (March 18). Alzaga
swims the 200 backstroke and Brennan has the 200 breaststroke.
