Marquette Mail Fraud

More and more people are falling victim to fraud involving the mail system.

The Marquette City Police want residents to be careful.

Wednesday afternoon, an 89–year–old Marquette woman told police she mailed out two packages — one to New York state and one to Florida.

Between them, the two packages contained $50,000.

The scammers called the victim and told her she’d won a new vehicle and $2.5 million.

To claim the prizes, she was told she needed to send money up front to pay federal taxes.

The Marquette Post Office recovered the package sent to Florida, but the other package, containing $30,000, had already been delivered to New York state.

Police believe this was a conspiracy.

The case is still under investigation by Marquette City Police and U.S. Postal Inspectors.
