NMU's Lyons named GLIAC North Division Player of the Week

MARQUETTE, Mich. – For the second time this season, a Northern Michigan women’s basketball player has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division “Player of the Week.” Senior guard Chelsea Lyons (Coon Rapids, Minn.) was honored after leading the ‘Cats to a two-game conference sweep last week.
Lyons led the ‘Cats to a 2-0 record last week with wins over Northwood (71-62) and Saginaw Valley State (76-61). Lyons averaged 26 points, eight rebounds and four assists and shot 61.2 percent from the field in the two wins over the north division opponents. The senior recorded a career-high 34 points, nine rebounds and three assists against Northwood and recorded 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the win over Saginaw Valley State. Lyons is averaging 16.5 ppg this season and ranks third in the GLIAC in scoring.
The ‘Cats (13-13, 9-10 GLIAC) travel to No. 5 Ashland for a GLIAC Quarterfinal matchup on Feb. 29. NMU enters the tournament as the eighth seed.
