AWOL Soldiers Arraigned
Two soldiers from the U.S. Army have been arraigned in 93rd District Court in Munising on weapons charges.
State Police from the Munising Detachment arrested the two men on Saturday.
20-year-old Powers Ashley Goldwire from Fort Campbell, Kentucky was charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon and one count of receiving and concealing a stolen firearm.
21-year-old Matthew Shay Cox from Radford, Virginia was charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon.
Bond has been set at $30,000 for each man.
The pair had reportedly formulated a plan to go absent without leave and was attempting to enter Canada.
Upper Michigan law enforcement was notified by police over the weekend to be on the look out for the two.
Goldwire and Cox were reportedly walking through Munising with a handguns and a stolen rifle.
Police seized a .40–caliber handgun, two knives and a .22–caliber rifle.
The incident is still under investigation.
