Car Hits Utility Pole in Mqt. Township

Slippery roads may have led to a one-car accident this afternoon in Marquette Township.

It happened at about 1:30.

According to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department, a 2005 Chevy Impala was heading east on US-41 near the west end of Northwoods Road when the driver, 64-year-old Cheryl Abbott of Ishpeming, lost control of the car and hit a utility pole.

The utility pole broke and landed on the vehicle.

The driver’s husband, 66-year-old Bill Abbott, was riding in the front passenger’s seat.

Both their air bags deployed.

The Abbotts were both treated for minor facial injuries.

The sheriff’s department was assisted by Marquette Township Fire & Rescue, MediRide EMS and the Marquette Board of Light & Power.
