Snowmobile Season Starting
Although the U.P. has been a bit lacking in the snow department, it’s not stopping avid riders from gearing up for this year’s snowmobile season.
Typically, snowmobile owners would have already been out hitting the trails for more than a month.
But with the area’s less than stellar snowfall the popular sport is just starting to get underway.
Marquette Powersports manager Joe Wiseman says it’s really coming on strong just before the New Year, with many area trails opening within the last week or so.
Snowmobiling is one of the area’s most popular winter sports — Wiseman says he frequently meets people from all over the Midwest who’ve traveled to the U.P. to take part in the action.
On average, the snowmobile season in the U.P. lasts into March.
Rentals are also a popular option for anyone new to the sport who may not be sure about buying a sled.
