NMU’s Gron named CCHA Offensive Player of the week

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Senior Tyler Gron, of the Northern Michigan hockey team, has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week after his performance in a home series sweep over the No. 18 Miami RedHawks.
The 5-11 forward, a native of Spruce Grove, Alberta, scored a power-play goal in the first period on Friday (Dec. 2) night and added an assist on freshman defenseman Jake Baker’s game-winning goal late in the third. NMU won 2-1.
Saturday (Dec. 3), Florek added a career-high three assists in the 5-1 win. He assisted on senior forward Justin Florek’s two power-play goals and added an assist on sophomore forward Stephan Vigier’s third period goal. Gron was on the ice in four of the five NMU goals.
Gron is tied for the team lead in points (14) with seven goals and seven
assists. In 121 career games, he has 38 goals and 36 assists.
Northern is 7-6-3 overall and 4-5-3 in the CCHA. The ‘Cats are 6-1-3 at the Berry Events Center. NMU travels to Lake Superior State this weekend (Dec. 9-10) for a CCHA road series.
