Florek named CCHA Offensive Player of the Week

Senior forward Justin Florek, of the Northern Michigan hockey team, has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association
Offensive Player of the Week after his performance against the University of Michigan over the weekend.
The 6-4 captain scored an empty-net goal to seal a 5-3 victory over the
top-ranked Wolverines on Friday (Oct. 21) night. He also assisted on senior forward Tyler Gron’s game-winning goal with less than three minutes to go in the third period.
Saturday (Oct. 22), Florek assisted on Gron’s two power-play goals in the second period. The ‘Cats tied Michigan 3-3 in the series finale.
Florek leads NMU with nine points on five goals and four assists. Three of his goals came on the power-play, tying him for fifth in the nation. In 126 career games, Florek has 90 points on 40 goals and 50 assists.
Northern climbed a few spots to No. 14 this week in the latest Unites States College Hockey Online poll. The ‘Cats travel to Western Michigan this weekend for their first CCHA road series.
