Tigers Pitcher David Purcey Designated for Assignment
The Detroit Tigers have announced that pitcher David Purcey has been Designated for Assignment. Purcey was acquired by the Tigers from the Oakland Athletics on May 27th in exchange for Scott Sizemore.
The Tigers will now have 10 days to trade Purcey, or have someone pick him up off of waivers. If Purcey clears waivers and is not traded, he can be optioned to the Tigers Triple-A affiliate Toledo Mud Hens.
Purcey has struggled for the Tigers over the past month. In his last 9 relief appearances, he has an ERA of 18.00. The Toronto Blue Jays drafted Purcey with the 16th pick in the 2004 MLB draft. He has since played for three teams (Blue Jays, Athletics, Tigers), and has amassed a 6-12 record and a 5.28 ERA.
