Earth Day Recycling & Trash Fair
This year, Good Friday is also Earth Day.
But one area community will be marking the occasion tomorrow instead of today.
The Marquette Township Beautification Committee is hosting a recycling and solid waste fair at the township hall tomorrow.
They call it an Earth Day Extravaganza.
Many township residents may not know that just about any container can be made into a township recycling bin with the help of a $1 sticker.
Deanna Sved of the Beautification Committee says the occasion came out of a survey of township residents.
She says most residents told her either that they didn’t think the small amount of trash they generate would matter if it were recycled, or that they didn’t know how to recycle.
The Marquette County Landfill is encouraging residents to start home composting if they aren’t already.
The committee will have tips on that and other Earth-friendly options for what could be potential trash.
Area businesses have donated snacks, refreshments and some items to give away.
The Earth Day Extravaganza takes place tomorrow from 10 until 2, and it’s free of charge.
